Pupils show off their fantastic talents during STEM Week.15 July 2016 (by adminuser) |
Pupils from Nursery to Year 6 showcased their learning during a special event to mark the end of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths week.
During the event, representatives from each class displayed their technology projects and explained how they had designed, made and evaluated them. Our Chinese visitors were very impressed with them and it gave children throughout the school an opportunity to learn from each other.
Nursery children created jellyfish, Reception children made boats and carried out floating and sinking investigations. Year 1 created an aquarium to showcase their felt fish and magic model sea creatures. Year 2 children showed off their African habitats and Year 3 their Mayan masks and costume. Year 4 created models of Ancient Egyptian shadufs, Year 5 put their sewing skills to the test to make aprons and Year 6 demonstrated their battery controlled buggies. The day was a great success and pupils learnt a great deal from each other.
As part of STEM week, a group of Y5 pupils along with our Chinese visitors also took part in a CSI mock murder investigation at the Gazelle STEM Centre at Barking and Dagenham College. During the event, they became junior investigators learning how to make electronic e-fits, lift finger prints and study blood splatter patterns. Afterwards they were tasked with using their newfound knowledge to work out the culprit. The children were successful in their endeavours and were very well behaved, impressing the staff with their questions and answers.
