At SS Peter & Paul’s we are committed to supporting and developing the mental health and well-being of our whole school community, including pupils, staff and parents.

Mental health as defined by the World Health Organisation is a state of well-being in which every individual realises his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community.’

Building strong mental health early in life can help children build their self-esteem, learn to settle themselves and engage positively with their education. This, in turn, can lead to improved academic attainment, enhanced future employment opportunities and positive life choices.

At SSPP we have been looking at ways to encourage children and adults to look after their bodies and their minds. It doesn’t have to be difficult. Our bodies and minds are connected, so simple things that we do to improve our physical well-being can help our mental well-being too.

We know that outside of the home, school is often the most important consistent influence in children’s development so one of the best ways in which we can develop the positive mental health and well-being of our pupils is through working in partnership with parents.

We recently held a Healthy Inside and Out workshop for parents to raise their awareness of our commitment to improving pupils’ mental health and to outline some of the potential risks their children can be facing which could have a detrimental effect on their health and well-being.
